If you are looking for a animal companion, but you do not want to contribute to pet shops or puppy mills - there is a great website out there called PetFinder that has all kinds of great animal companions for adoption. The site helps animals and animal lovers find each other in every state, from all walks of life.
The first thing to do is go to www.petfinder.com Pet Finder helps find animals homes that are in clinics, pounds, adoption centers, and animal rehabilitation centers. They have all kinds of great animals on the site from puppies to older faithful friends.
While on the site, you will notice that there is a great search tool on the left hand side of the screen to help you find the animal, breed, age, size, gender, and even the location (down to zip code) of your soon to be animal companion. You can also look up animal welfare groups if you are interested in helping animals or adopting an animal.
You can also look at the toolbar across the top of the site of Pet Finder to help you search animal shelters and locally.
Once you enter in your animal search criteria, the site will return a bunch of matching criteria that will show the animals picture, their name, their breed, gender and size, and will also give you a link to the organization that has the animal. You can even click on the animals picture to learn more about them.
Once you have found the animal that you are interested in adopting, you can fill out adoption papers right online, or contact the organization that has the animal. The organization will then call you and work with you to meet the animal and start the adoption process.
Basically after you do this, you will become an angel to the animal that you adopt and hopefully you will provide them with a loving home!
